Outlook resident Loretta Lyons may need to pick out her sharpest outfit to wear when she takes to the stage later this month.
The long-time educator and track and field official is the 2018 recipient of the Sask Sport Female Official Award for her dedication to sports that span three decades.
Lyons will be honored along with the other recipients at the Saskatchewan Sport Awards with a СÀ¶ÊÓƵ on Thursday, March 28 in Saskatoon.
The СÀ¶ÊÓƵ recognizes the work of outstanding coaches, officials and volunteers in sports.
"Congratulations to this year's exceptional coaches, officials and volunteers for their generous contribution to amateur sport in Saskatchewan," said Leslie Blyth, volunteer Chair of the Board of Directors for Sask Sport Inc. Â "Your dedication and commitment to Saskatchewan athletes help fuel dreams and empower inspirational performances. It is the skilled and talented coaches, officials and volunteers that truly make sport participation opportunities possible in our province, and we thank you for your support and leadership."
At the СÀ¶ÊÓƵ, awards will also be delivered to recipients of the 2018 Athlete of the Year award categories of Youth-Female, Youth-Male, Female, Male, Team and Master.
Lyons has been a certified track and field official for three decades. Â Today, she continues to make contributions to the track and field community by mentoring and evaluating new officials. Â Loretta holds Level 3 vertical and Level 5 horizontal jump certifications and is also a trained run, jump and throw instructor. Â In her experiences, she has officiated at many provincial, national and international events, including the Saskatchewan Summer Games, Canada Summer Games, North American Indigenous Games and World Masters Summer Games.
Loretta’s passion for track and field often reminds people of the long-time work that her late husband Blake did in athletics, making his own outstanding mark in the sport by coaching and officiating.
In May 2017, Loretta and family were on hand for a special СÀ¶ÊÓƵ when Outlook High School named their track and field location, ‘R.B. Lyons Track and Field’ in honor of her late husband.
Loretta is certainly no stranger to awards when it comes to her dedication to sports, as she is a past recipient of the Bob Adams Foundation Official of the Year and Saskatchewan Athletics Official of the Year awards.
