The Sacred Heart senior girls volleyball team competed in a 10-team tournament in Canora over the weekend.
The Lady Saints were undefeated Friday night defeating Norquay 25-11 and 25-15 and Regina Western Christian 28-26 and 25-13.
The Lady Saints split their first match was against the YRHS Jr's 22-25 and 25-22. SHHS finished first in their pool and advanced into the playoffs facing the host Canora team.
Sacred Heart won two straight winning 25-12 and 25-21.
In the semi-finals SHHS faced the senior YRHS team. YRHS won the first set 15-25, the Lady Saints battled back to take the second set 25-17.
In the deciding set, both teams played very well and the lead changed several times but the Lady Saints prevailed winning 17-15 to advance to the Championship match.
In the final, SHHS faced Milestone who had also finished first in their pool, says SHHS Saints coach Perry Enns.
"The Lady Saints grabbed an early lead thanks to three consecutive blocks by Brianna Ostafie and Mariel Kotyk served nine in a row and the Lady Saints won the first set 25 - 10. Milestone battled back in the second set, but Sacred Heart prevailed 25-21 to win the championship."
Brianna Ostafie and Kristen Jonassen were given the Player-of-the-Game award for the championship match, says Enns.
The Lady Saints will be hosting their home tournament this weekend (Oct. 21 & 22).
