Wayne Sas, president of the Kamsack Senior Flyers, has announced that the men鈥檚 hockey franchise, formed in May, 2012, has disbanded.
The decision to disband the hockey club was made at a meeting of the Flyers鈥 board of directors held April 27 at the Riverside Golf Course in Kamsack.
鈥淲ith little prospect of forming a team in the 2017-2018 season, the Flyer鈥檚 board voted unanimously to terminate the club and disburse our assets to other hockey organizations,鈥 said Sas.
An amount of $5,000 was to be transferred immediately from the Senior Flyers account to the Kamsack Minor Hockey Association for an October 2017 hockey skills improvement clinic at the Broda Sportsplex.
The Senior Flyers will spend $2,400 on a new centre ice logo for the Sportsplex and donate their home-and-away jerseys to the association鈥檚 midget hockey team.
The Senior Flyers鈥 remaining cash assets, approximately $8,000, will be held in trust and transferred to a future Kamsack senior hockey organization, or given to the minor hockey association. The three trustees appointed to administer these funds are Wayne Sas, Jared Ruf and Karen Berezowski.
In keeping with Article XIII of their constitution, the Senior Flyers鈥 board of directors decided to place a time limit on transferring their remaining assets to a new Kamsack senior hockey club.
鈥淚f no senior hockey club is formed in Kamsack prior to September 21, 2027, the money held in trust will be given to the Kamsack Minor Hockey Association or another local amateur sports group,鈥 said Sas.
The Senior Flyers Hockey Club thanks its players, volunteers, sponsors and fans for their support over the past five years.
鈥淲e encourage a new group of hockey organizers to come forward and create more hockey opportunities for our young men in the future,鈥 said a release from the club.
