聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 A second series of 10 weeks of gymnastics instruction for the 2017-18 year will begin in Kamsack on February 7.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The first session of instruction with Sandy Bedore as facilitator began in October and ended in December. It had attracted between 20 and 25 youths in each of the two classes: for students aged under six, and over six.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The group will be meeting at the Victoria School gymnasium each Wednesday afternoon, Bedore said last week. The under six group meets at 4:30 p.m., and the over six, at 5:30 p.m.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Bedore, who is assisted by Hillary Walter, said that in order to hold the sessions, she has obtained the help of four high school students who are the gymnasts that offer the instruction. Elisabeth Ashley, who has taken training through Gymnastics Saskatchewan is the head coach, and is assisted by Kaylee Sterzer, Maison Davis and Tamara Auchstaetter of Pelly.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淢y ultimate goal is to get the students trained and experienced so that they will be able to take over the club, Bedore explained.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Club members make use of balance beams and tumbling mats at the school and she organizes various themes for the classes, including 鈥渢ravelling to space,鈥 鈥渦nder the sea,鈥澛 鈥渁 lion hunt鈥 and 鈥渢o the zoo.鈥
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Gymnasitics is a great way for youngsters to keep active, especially in winter, she said. It鈥檚 so much better to have a club here in Kamsack rather than having to drive to Yorkton to participate in gymnastics there.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 It has been decided that during this second session, the younger group will meet only five weeks, and then the remaining five weeks the classes will change into a parents and tots experience.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淲e鈥檙e there to promote physical literacy,鈥 she said. The club is recreational, not competitive.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Club members are charged $100 for the 10 weeks of instruction, or $50 for the five weeks, plus a drop in rate after that.
