The Yorkton Taekwondo Association and Kee's Taekwondo are hosting their 13th Annual Prairie Wildfire Invitational Tournament on Oct. 22. Over 40 schools from North Dakota, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario and Manitoba have been extended invitations. Organizers are hoping for as many as 300 spectators. The competition rules used at this tournament will be by the World Taekwondo Federation, the same rules that will be used at the 2012 London Olympics and the 2011 Pan-Am Games.
The tournament will be held at the Gallagher Centre Flexihall on Oct. 22. Patterns competition is scheduled to start at 08:45 a.m.
Opening ceremonies are slated for 12 noon. The coloured belt sparring is scheduled for 10:30 a.m., with the black belt sparring scheduled for 3 p.m. According to Master Wayne Mitchell of Kee's Taekwondo:
"The black belt sparring is a 10-fold increase in talent and excitement over the earlier days' proceedings," says Mitchell, who advises that time slots are subject to change throughout the day. According to him, the athletes have been training hard. "Our local competitors have been training hard. There will be some first-time competitors as well as our 'able veterans' entered into this event.
