A special “fun hockey camp” for females who have never played hockey before will be held at Kamsack on November 7.
The camp, СƵ held at the Broda Sportsplex, will be comprised of one hour of instruction off the ice, and another hour on the ice, said Kev Sumner, Kamsack recreation director.
“Hopefully, this camp will lead to a weekly female recreation hockey session,” Sumner said.
The program, called the Esso Fun Days hockey camp, is sponsored by the Saskatchewan Hockey Association and Hockey Canada, he said. It has been designed for females aged 10 to 50.
“Esso Fun Days have been running since 1998 and are hosted by minor hockey associations on an application-based process,” says information on its website. “This program is meant to be a fun day of hockey for the first time participant in the female game.
“These events are intended for all ages and are free of cost to the participant.
“The focus of the day is to introduce players to the basics, to make new friends, and to try the game without having to make a commitment to sign up for a season,” the information says. “On-ice activities are provided by individuals with coach level certification, assisted by other on-ice role models.
“Individuals interested in pursuing hockey even further are given an opportunity to sign up at the program,” it said.
Those wishing to register for the camp may do so by contacting Sumner at the Kamsack recreation office.
