Canora Minor Hockey teams play games and tournaments

Excitement for the hockey season is picking up as teams with the Canora Minor Hockey League play games for the league and some tournaments for fun.

聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 Excitement for the hockey season is picking up as teams with the Canora Minor Hockey League play games for the league and some tournaments for fun.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The Canora Atom Red Cobras travelled to play a game at the Cote Memorial Arena on December 1 when it beat the Cote Atom Chiefs 7-5. This is the team鈥檚 first Major Hockey League game win, according to Tracey Bletsky, the manager. Goals were scored by Nate Wolos (four), Rhett Ludba (two) and Rylan Bletsky. Assists were by Rhett Ludba and Nate Wolos.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The team members also travelled out of town for a two-game tournament in Hudson Bay on December 3. The team continued its winning streak by winning games against Nipawin and Tisdale.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The team was back in Canora on December 4 to play against the Preeceville Atom Pats at the Canora Civic Centre. The Preeceville team continued to prove its difficulty as an opponent, and the Canora Atom Cobras Red lost 2-8. Goals were made in the third period by Rhett Ludba and Chase Fountain. Assists were by Nate Wolos and Cooper Kraynick, a novice player who also plays on the atom team along with other novice players Wyatt Wolkowski and Colton Bletsky.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Tracey said the Canora Atom Red Cobras鈥 next home game was to be on December 11 against the Yorkton Richardson Atom Terriers.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The Canora Novice Red team continued its season with two more losses. On November 30, the team played against the Churchbridge Novice Imperials at the Churchbridge and Community Centennial Arena and lost 23-0.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Back in Canora, the team played against the Kamsack Novice Flyers at the Canora Civic Centre on December 3. Team members managed a few goals, but still lost 13-3.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Goals were made by Ayden Lukey (two) and Kale Strelioff. An assist was made by Cale Smith.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The Canora Atom Cobras Black played an exciting tournament December 3 and 4 when the team travelled to Grandview, Man.. The Canora team was up against teams from Dauphin, McCreary, Wawanesa and Grand Plains in a round robin format. The team lost a close game against the first Dauphin team, according to Jennifer Sleeva, the team鈥檚 manager.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The team also lost against McCreary in its second game. On December 4, team members played against the second Dauphin team in the C final. Though it was a well-played game, Canora lost 7-5.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Though the team lost its games, Sleeva considered it an important tournament.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淭he weekend was meant for the team to spend some time together not only on the ice but off it as well,鈥 she said.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The Canora Atom Cobras Black team was to be 鈥渂ack in action鈥 on December 10 in a visitor鈥檚 game against the Cote Chiefs.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 This week, upcoming games at the Canora Civic Centre include Canora Peewee Cobras against Yorkton Days Inn on Friday, Canora Atom Cobras Red against the Kamsack Flyers on Saturday and Canora Atom Cobras Black against the Preeceville Pats, also on Saturday.
