There was at least one local finish in each of the 16 categories at the 27th Annual Autumn Summit Cross Country Run.

It was held at the Saltcoats Regional Park late in September.

Dale Sidoryk, a teacher at Saltcoats School said it was a big meet for all the students because it covered at least two school boards.

The Good Spirit School Division and Christ the Teacher Catholic Schools were both in attendance, as well as numerous schools from outside the province, said Sidoryk.

"We are just shy of 50 schools altogether."

The meet included students from Gr. 3-12 with race lengths differing amongst the age groups.

Sidoryk said the youngest group (Gr. 2-5) ran two kilometres, the middle group (Gr. 6-9) ran three kilometres and the eldest group (Gr. 10-12) ran between 4-6 kilometres.

Sidoryk added that this was a "heads up for provincials for the high school" students that took part.

He added that one race had 225 kids participating.

He said the meet was a good chance to develop some skills, noting that a "cross country meet is more than just running".

He included perseverance and not giving up.

He said the staff at Saltcoats School had a big hand in getting over 50 schools together for an afternoon of cross country running.

"The secretary does a lot of work," adding that the YRHS helps out a lot with both staff and students
