SASKATOON – Two of the nine accused in Megan Gallagher’s murder had more appearances in Saskatoon Provincial Court Thursday.
Roderick William Sutherland, 44, of Saskatoon is charged with first-degree murder. His matter was adjourned to Nov. 23.
Sutherland was arrested in Prince Albert in June and initially charged with committing an indignity to human remains. At the time of his arrest in Gallagher’s death he was wanted by police for failing to comply with release conditions on charges in a separate incident.
John Wayne Sanderson, 40, from James Smith First Nation, is charged with committing an indignity to human remains. His matter was adjourned to Nov. 23 for a bail hearing.
Sanderson was also wanted by police prior to his arrest for Gallagher’s murder. A bench warrant was issued after he failed to appear in Melfort court in July on charges of sexual assault and assault with a weapon causing bodily harm.
Police continue search for ninth accused
On Oct. 5, Saskatoon Police requested the public’s assistance in locating 24-year-old Summer-Sky Henry. She is charged with first-degree murder in Gallagher’s homicide.
Henry also has unrelated outstanding criminal code warrants including two counts of unlawful confinement, two counts of robbery, possession for the purpose of trafficking, two counts of robbery, aggravated assault, and failing to appear in court.
Court documents show that in January 2022, she allegedly committed an aggravated assault against a woman and, using violence, stole an electronic device from her, and failed to comply with release conditions of having no contact with Faith Eagle.
Henry was also charged in December 2021 with possessing fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking, having a shotgun with readily accessible ammunition, possession of a shotgun without a firearm’s license, and, with co-accused 42-year-old Faith Eagle, confining and robbing a man.
Investigators are asking anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Summer-Sky Henry to call 306-975-8300 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477. If you see her, police request you do not approach, and call 9-1-1 immediately.
Gallagher went missing in 2020
Gallagher went missing in Saskatoon in September of 2020 and four months later the Saskatoon Police Service said they were treating her disappearance as a homicide.
On Sept. 29, SPS found human remains along the СÀ¶ÊÓƵ Saskatchewan River near St. Louis. The discovery was made within hours on the first day of their scheduled four-day search. The SPS Forensic Identification Unit processed the scene and forensic tests determined the body was Gallagher.
Gallagher was last seen alive around 6 p.m. at Circle K convenience store at 3730 Diefenbaker Drive in Saskatoon on Sept. 20, 2020.
In May 2021, Saskatoon Police released an audio that was recorded by a taxi company who received a call from an unidentified woman who used Gallagher’s cellphone to call for a cab at about 3:30 a.m. on Sept. 21, 2020.
Saskatoon Police say that a man and a woman’s voice were heard on the call and neither were that of Gallagher. The caller had requested a cab for a pickup in the 700 block of Weldon Avenue. Investigators determined that a man and a woman were dropped off in the 100 block of Avenue P СÀ¶ÊÓƵ.
