Kudos are in order for the writing staff of The Outlook, who are up for a combined three awards at this year’s Better Newspapers Competition!
The Better Newspapers Competition is held as part of the Saskatchewan Weekly Newspapers Association’s AGM every spring, highlighting the best and brightest among weekly publications around the province and admiring the work of our peers, while also celebrating the health and vibrancy of community newspapers across the country.
Reporter/photographer Derek Ruttle is up for the award of ‘Best Sports Story or Series of Stories’ for his feature article on local hockey player McKenzie Neufeld, who miraculously returned to the ice a year ago after a horrendous injury in the spring of 2017 almost left him paralyzed.
Guest writer/columnist Shelley Luedtke is up for the awards of ‘Columnist of the Year’ for her weekly editorial, ‘My Outlook’, as well as ‘Best Saskatchewan Arts or Cultural Story’ for her article on Outlook’s own Lizette Mynhardt, who performed on a New York City stage to tell the story of Unity.
The awards banquet will take place on Saturday, April 6 at the Double Tree Hotel in Regina.
Congratulations to Derek and Shelley!
