YORKTON – The Yorkton Brick Mill Heritage Society has been honoured with a Governors’ Award by the National Trust for Canada’s Board of Governors.
The accolade celebrates the Yorkton Brick Mill project as an exemplary model of heritage conservation meeting modern community needs.
“It is wonderful for our volunteers to be recognized by a national heritage organization. This is truly an honour for our city!” said Larry Pearen, President of the Yorkton Brick Mill Heritage Society.
“We didn’t know that we were nominated for the award. The award recognizes all those involved with the community project," added Pearen.
The presentation took place Nov. 15 in Montreal at the National Trust’s annual conference held at at Le Centre Sheraton, the largest heritage learning and networking event in Canada. Brad Taylor, the structural engineer for the Yorkton Mill, accepted the award on behalf of the society.
The National Trust for Canada, founded in 1973, is a leading charity dedicated to the preservation of Canada's historic places. The Trust advocates for the role of heritage sites and older buildings in addressing community challenges and contemporary needs, such as climate resilience, diversity and inclusion, identity and sense of place, and community well-СÀ¶ÊÓƵ.
