Senior lacrosse off to great start for new season in Sturgis

STURGIS - The Sturgis senior lacrosse team is continuing to keep the love of the sport alive for 18 years-old and over players. The Sturgis team hosted a lacrosse tournament on Sept. 9.

“The Saskatchewan Field Lacrosse League began in 2019 with the goal of allowing guys who are older to continue to play the game of Lacrosse,” said Bo Babiuk, organizer. “We played a few games until COVID-19 hit and we were forced to stop. We were excited to reorganize in 2021 and Sturgis received the opportunity to host the second tournament with teams from Sturgis, Yorkton, Prince Albert and Saskatoon on September 9.”

Sturgis finished the tournament with a perfect 3-0 record after playing the other three teams in the tournament. Upcoming tournaments were scheduled for Moose Jaw on Sept. 16 and Regina on Sept. 23. Provincial play (the 2023 Harvest Cup) will be held in Saskatoon on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1.

The Sturgis team has 22 active members and is made up from players come from Sturgis, Preeceville, Canora and Kelvington.
