聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 Sierra Dahlin, who was nominated by Kaeley Kish, president of the Norquay Skate Club, has been named the recipient of the SaskEnergy Rising Star Award.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淪ierra has become a great asset to our small, newly re-established club in the past two seasons,鈥 Kish said in her nomination. 鈥淪he has shown a lot of interest and love for skating by rarely missing a lesson and completing multiple stages of CanSkate. With very little CanSkate experience she has really shown dedication and progressed easily through the stages.

鈥淣ot only has Sierra done well for herself in CanSkate, but she has also happily agreed to help the club by giving our coach a helping hand with our Pre-Can and Stage 1 kids,鈥 Kish said. 鈥淪he is their help up, their buddy and their encouragement.

鈥淪ierra is well on her way to becoming an experienced PA (program assistant) and a hopeful certified coach. When I asked Sierra if she was liking helping out on the ice, I got that big smile and a definite, 鈥榶es.鈥

鈥淪ierra has taken the initiative to volunteer her time to the club and still excels in her own lessons. Sierra is a perfect example of why I wanted to get skating back in the community: to give kids the opportunity to fall in the love with it and progress as far as their hearts desire.

鈥淪ierra is well on her way and has the ability and determination to succeed through CanSkate, StarSkate and beyond,鈥 Kish said. 鈥淲e are proud to have her in our club and community: a star on the rise.鈥

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淪he has been so awesome helping the little guys; always smiling and willing to hold their hands,鈥 said Rianna Westerlund, a parent.

鈥淪he is so helpful with the little kids. She always has a smile on her face. She truly tries to teach the kids skills and not just skating. Club is lucky to have her,鈥 said Candice Salisbury, a parent.

鈥(She) always has a smile on her face and a positive attitude,鈥 said Sandy Turta, a school librarian. 鈥(She) works hard at whatever she does.鈥

鈥淪he is always smiling and willing to help out,鈥 said Lindsay Peters, a teacher. 鈥(She) never has anything bad to say about anyone.鈥

鈥淪ierra鈥s an outstanding skater,鈥 said Kayla Sheptak, a coach. 鈥淪he always comes to lessons ready to learn with a positive attitude and enthused attitude. She is a joy to teach and work with. Sierra鈥檚 bubbly, happy attitude is always helpful and motivating towards the young Pre-Can skaters and always manages to put a smile on everybody鈥檚 face.

鈥淪ierra is a go-getter girl excited about new things, and shows pride when she succeeds. Her help with the young skaters does not go unnoticed or unappreciated. This skater is an inspiration to the Norquay Skate Club.鈥

Sierra has been skating since she was two years old, said her mother Crystal Dahlin. This is her fifth year of figure skating.

She has been helping out with the beginner class and is loving it, her mother said. She would like to continue skating and get her coaching certificate.

鈥淪ierra loves all sports,鈥 she said adding that her daughter is involved in baseball, volleyball, badminton, curling, skiing, Ukrainian Dance and swimming.

鈥淪he is a very outdoorsy girl,鈥 she said. 鈥淎fter school you can find her playing outside, summer and winter, even in minus 30-degree weather she is out playing.

鈥淎 teacher asked them in school a couple days ago who could live without electronics,鈥 she said. Only Sierra and one other student had put up their hands.

鈥淭hat makes me very proud,鈥 her mother said.
