Summer is rapidly approaching, and preparations are happening all around Canora, said Aaron Herriges, director of leisure services, Town of Canora.
The tentative date for the opening of the swimming pool is May 31, assuming there are no unforeseen setbacks along the way
Water polo is coming to Canora July 15, said Herriges. Youth must register, but there is no charge for this program.
A summer barbecue and ice cream party will be held on July 16.
Synchronized swimming will be making a return sometime in August, with dates and details still to come. Youth must register at the swimming pool.
The pool has a total of 17 staff members for the summer.
Kelly Bazuik is the manager, with Mackenzie Gulka as the assistant manager. Janayah Merriam and Jill Gulka are full-time staff, while Emma Mykytyshyn, Ashley Stusek, Garrett Bazuik, Brett Popoff and Zane Chopik are part-time staff members. Mina Mykytyshyn, Carter Matychuk, Emily Owchar, Zoe Thomas, Lexie Biletski, Breanne Woloshyn, Bella Mykytyshyn and Drea Beblow will be working on a casual basis.
Herriges said a new addition this year is that Canora.com will be the host of all live schedules for the swimming pool.

The Chase Kraynick Splash Park is scheduled to open on June 15.
Soccer season is underway. Canora Soccer Club meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and has 93 players registered, up significantly from last year.
Canora Minor Ball season has begun, with games on Mondays and Wednesdays. Teams in five age groups include: junior rookie, rookie, two mosquito teams, peewee and midget. Canora Minor Ball Day is scheduled for June 1, with concessions, beer gardens and plenty of games, said Herriges. Further details are available at canora.com
Slow pitch season started on May 14, with games on Tuesday and Thursday nights.

Golf season is underway at the Canora Golf and Country Club. Seniors golf is on Mondays with sponsored fun nights on Tuesdays. Men鈥檚 nights will feature 9-hole Hi-Lo games and progressive par 3 birdie holes. Scheduled special events include: a poker tournament on June 1, the Gus Wolos Give-R-Go Classic on June 30, the Hole-In-One Classic (with sponsors) on July 14, the Junior Tournament on July 24, the Ladies Open on August 14, the Men鈥檚 Open on August 25 and the Senior Men鈥檚 and Ladies Tournament on September 4.

Canora in Bloom will be held from July 14 to July 20. Festival in the Park, the main event of the week, will be held on July 20, with no admission charged. It will be held outdoors so, 鈥渂e prepared for the weather,鈥 said Herriges. Attractions will include a petting zoo with a miniature pony riding carousel, a miniature Hereford bull, reptiles, opportunities to feed the animals and Whack-a-mole games.
There will be inflatable bouncers and an obstacle course, a motocross spectacular and a car show.
Live music will feature: Old Country Lads, Nick Faye and The Deputies, Cover to Cover (featuring Catie St. Germain) and Canora Open Mic.
There will be a non-alcoholic area, along with concessions and beer gardens, a no minor area.
Art will be featured at the event.
Sponsors include: Gateway Co-op, Community Insurance, Penguin Refrigeration and Sask Lotteries.
