On a phone interview with the Kamsack Times, the popular Kamsack physician explained that he and his family will be soon leaving for India to spend four to six months visiting his parents and extended family.
“We discussed it as a family and concluded that it would be best for me to avoid working in a hospital setting at this time. In December of 2020, I contracted COVID-19 and it has been determined that I am a high-risk candidate for new strains.”
Many of Dr. Kumar’s patients have expressed disappointment that the well-liked doctor is leaving, and have made positive comments online – describing the doctor as helpful, compassionate, caring, and knowledgeable.
Dr. Kumar credits his popularity to the advice he received from his father.
“My father taught me that truly listening to people makes you more informed in caring for them. And I have found that putting in the time to listen, it will not only help you best serve people – but in the way they want to be helped.”
Kumar said life in Kamsack for the past four years has been beautiful. He and his wife, Dilpreet, love the area and have enjoyed boating, fishing and trekking through many pristine trails in Duck Mountain Provincial Park. Two years ago, the couple welcomed a baby girl, Shanaya. The new parents said they were grateful for the influx of community support they received.
“I would personally like to say thank you to our neighbour, Dianne Smutt who has helped our family to a great extent. I wish every person could have such a wonderful neighbour,” offered Kumar.
“We are also so very grateful for the kindness of Andrea Thomsen, Karen Tourangeau, Glen Boychuk, Dr. Maghar Shah, Audrey Horkofff, Ronald Tetoff, and numerous others who have supported me and my family. I thank you all from the core of my heart.”
Dr. Kumar said he has thoroughly enjoyed a number of professional relationships with his team of coworkers. “Even though sometimes we have had differences of opinions, if I have hurt anyone’s feelings – I apologize. I will always value the good memories we shared.”
“And finally, thank you to the people of Kamsack and area for trusting in my abilities and giving me the opportunity to serve you. If the future allows, I would definitely love to come back. In the meantime, I will miss the people of Kamsack for sure.”
The Assiniboine Valley Medical Centre will be announcing the name of Dr. Kumar’s replacement in the near future.
