Canora/Sturgis RCMP activity report: Got drunk, lost phone

RCMP investigated a call involving fraud in Preeceville where the complainant received a cheque in the mail for items he was selling on line. After deposting the cheque into his bank account he learned the cheque was false.

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 31 calls from March 31 to April 7, including a 911 call which just turned out to be a six-year-old playing with a phone.

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 31 calls from March 31 to April 7, some of which included: two traffic collisions, three 911 Act, three Mental Health Act, one failing to comply with conditions, one criminal harassment, six traffic offences, five mischiefs, one animal call, one fraud, and one suspicious person/vehicle.

Airborne mishap

On March 31, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to an abandoned truck along a grid road north of Stenen. Police attended and observed evidence at the scene showing the vehicle had lost control and struck a large snow embankment causing it to launch into the air and land in the ditch. Broken alcohol containers were found in the cab of the truck. Police continue to investigate.

Suspicious van

A suspicious white van driving around Canora was reported multiple times on April 2 to the Canora/Sturgis RCMP. Police patrolled for the van and checked multiple vehicles matching the description. Police continue to investigate.

Drunk, lost phone

On April 3, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a complaint to assist with locating a cell phone that was lost the previous evening along Highway No. 5 near Buchanan. The complainant stated he was intoxicated and lost his phone after getting sick on the side of the highway.  

911 is not a game

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to a 911 hang-up complaint on April 4 at a residence in Sturgis. Police attended and learned a six-year-old was playing with the phone and there was no emergency.

Should have stayed home

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP conducted a curfew check on April 4 on a male in Preeceville who was on a 24-hour court-ordered curfew. The male was found not to be home and he was charged with failing to comply with his release order conditions.

Too good to be true

On April 4, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP investigated a complaint involving fraud in Preeceville. The complainant received a cheque in the mail for items he was selling on line. The complainant deposited the cheque into his bank account only to learn days later the cheque was false. If you believe a deal is to good to be true it probably is a fraud. Shipping container trouble

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a complaint on April 5 of an attempted break and enter to a storage sea can in Canora. If you have any information about this incident, please contact the Canora RCMP or you can also report anonymously via Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers.

Camo complaint

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a complaint of a suspicious male wearing a camo jacket and acting strangely in Canora on April 6. Numerous complaints were received during the week concerning this same male. Police located the male and provided him assistance with getting back home.
