YRHS students take in Agribition Career Expo

Several students from the Yorkton Regional High School had the opportunity to participate in the annual Canadian Western Agribition hosted in Regina thanks to the sponsorship of several nationally recognized businesses.

Several students from the Yorkton Regional High School had the opportunity to participate in the annual Canadian Western Agribition hosted in Regina thanks to the sponsorship of several nationally recognized businesses. On Tuesday November 24th, the students were transported via bus to and from Regina under the sponsorship of the locally owned and operated company of Grain Millers.  YRHS was also sponsored by Cargill who paid for all the admission costs and purchased each student a lunch, as well as Mosaic who purchased all the participants rodeo tickets. While at Agribition, the students had the privilege to explore all the different aspects of the Canadian Western Agribition. Free time and exploration served as a portion of the students’ day. During this time, the students were able to explore the animal aspect of agriculture by going through several barns, exploring job opportunities, as well as observing the sale of several products that make the agriculture industry more effective. Throughout the afternoon, the students participated in several education sessions presented by the Government of Saskatchewan, educating the youth on job opportunities that are available in agriculture. Both the University of Saskatchewan and Lakeland College were at these education sessions helping to promote opportunities that Saskatchewan students have. Students learned about Agronomy, Marketing, Agriculture Research, and Animal Science, to name a few.  While at the Canadian Western Agribition the students also had the privilege to attend one of the Canadian Cowboys’ Association Finals Rodeo consisting of 7 major events and 2 junior events. These events included saddle bronc, bareback, tie down roping, steer wrestling, ladies barrel racing, team roping, and bull riding.  The Yorkton Regional High School is very appreciative of the support provided by Grain Millers, Cargill, and Mosaic.  The experience allowed students to explore, inquire, and learn about different aspects of agriculture, and how it affects many lives in the province of Saskatchewan.
