SaskOrganics has announced the launch of an education scholarship.
The scholarship has been made possible thanks to a generous donation from the North West Saskatchewan Organic Producer Group (NWSOPG).
鈥淭he NWSOPG wants to put this money to good use,鈥 Greg Ferris, NWSOPG member and past SaskOrganics Director said, 鈥渁nd what better way than investing in our youth through a scholarship fund鈥.
The NWSOPG and SaskOrganics worked to ensure this contribution was an investment in the future of the sector. To help ensure the funds are self-sustaining, the SaskOrganics鈥 Board made the decision to allocate five cents to the fund from every dollar raised from donations to the organization.
鈥淪askOrganics thanks the NWSOPG for providing us the stimulus to create this new annual Education Scholarship,鈥 Will Oddie, SaskOrganics鈥 President said, 鈥渁nd in doing so we are excited to provide a measure of recognition and financial assistance to post-secondary students who support Saskatchewan鈥檚 organic industry.鈥
Interested applicants must write a short essay about why they are passionate about organic food and farming. SaskOrganics will accept applications for the scholarship between November 1 and December 31, 2019.
The winner will be notified in writing by February 15, 2020 and invited to accept the award in person at SaskOrganics鈥 Advancing Organics conference, March 26-27, 2020 in Regina at the Delta hotel.
