As a way to mark the start of the Grain Millers Harvest Showdown, which runs Wednesday through Saturday in the city, a ceremonial branding was held Monday. Doug Poier, a long-time volunteer with the Yorkton Exhibition Association, which hosts the Showdown, does the branding as Chamber president Corey Werner and YEA president Lori Walsh hold the board. The event also marks Agriculture week which was declared by Yorkton Council for Oct. 31 to Nov. 6. The agriculture industry significantly impacts the economy of the City of Yorkton with more than 60 businesses directly involved in serving the farming and ranching community. In addition, it is estimated that for every job in the agriculture industry another seven jobs are generated in the economy.
