Big show day at Day 3 of Agribition

Four animals went to Mexican buyers who want to build the breed in their country.

REGINA — Sales to Mexico highlighted the national Speckle Park sale at Canadian Western Agribition on Wednesday.

The top seller, however, was a $17,000 heifer calf consigned by INC Cattle Co. of Saskatoon.

INC Centerfold 80L was purchased by Polzin Cattle of Darnwin, Minnesota.

The sale averaged about $8,500 on 17 live lots.

In the show ring, Colgan’s Kiss and Tell 27K from Colgan’s Cattle Co. of Saskatoon topped the female side. The reserve was INC Carnival Ride 67J.

Greenwood Coal Train 84J from Greenwood and Ivery Downs from Lloydminster, Alta., was selected grand champion bull. INC again took the reserve with INC Talladega 11J.

The Gelbvieh show saw RWG Kitty 1429 ET from Royal Western Gelbvieh of Alberta’s Red Deer County named the grand champion female. DRT Lonesome Pillow Talk 334K from Lonesome Dove Ranch at Ponteix, Sask., was reserve.

On the bull side, AWB Twin View Bold Ruler 20K ET, exhibited by Twin View Livestock of Parkbeg, Sask., and Golden Buckle Gelbvieh was named grand champion. Twin View Undisputed 20L ET was the reserve.

The top balancer or percentage Gelbvieh female was Fir River Jade from Fir River Livestock at Hudson Bay, Sask., and Fladeland Lainey 35L from Fladeland Livestock at Glad mar, Sask., was second.

In the bull class, OSF Strut 15J from Overby Stock Farm of Ste. Rose Du Lac, Man., and Foggy Mountain Farms Ltd. was the grand champion. Fir River Lazer 204L was the reserve.

And in the Maine Anjou show, Pick Six Cattle and Brynne Leppa of Gull Lake, Sask., showed LSCC Sweetart 121E to the grand champion female title. Miss Rusylvia 105L from Rusylvia Cattle Co. of Derwent, Alta., was reserve.

Rusylvia Cattle showed the top two purebred bulls, Mr Rusylvia 10L and Mr Rusylvia 22L. The farm also had the top percentage bull, Mr Rylsvia 1L, while Roch Springs Show Cattle from Estevan, Sask., had the reserve, Roch Maverick 331L.

To round out the show day, the grand champion percentage Simmental female was Erixon Darlin 2.0 from Indian River Cattle Co. at Indian River, Ont. The reserve winner was SHCO KY B 18K from Zane Lodoen at Westhope, North Dakota.

On the purebred side, GVR Miss Peppa 21J from Black Gold Simmentals of Lloydminster, Sask., and Greenwood Cattle topped the female show.

Ty-D Livestock of Streamstown, Alta., and Darlene Scriber showed the reserve, GG State of Elegance 16K.

The top percentage bull was Ultra/Hval Creed 152L exhibited by Ultra Livestock of Carstairs, Alta., and Hay Valley Ranches. Ashworth Farm and Ranch at Oungre, Sask., showed the reserve, KWA Cholo 65L.

The grand champion purebred bull was WF Capital 164L from Wallgren Farms of Edgerton, Alta., with DK Kingsland 9L from DK Land and Cattle Corp. at Lampman, Sask., in second.

Earlier in the week, Caley’s Ascension from Caley Alpacas at Camrose, Alta., was named the supreme champion in the alpaca show.

Thursday featured the Black and Red Angus shows, the national Limousin show, Shorthorn sale, Charolais sale and national Hereford sale. Commercial sheep and market lamb shows are also on the schedule, as are the International Stock Dog Trials.
