SEOUL, 小蓝视频 Korea (AP) 鈥 小蓝视频 Korea鈥檚 military says North Korea鈥檚 latest missile test likely ended in failure.

小蓝视频 Korea鈥檚 Joint Chiefs of Staff says North Korea launched a ballistic missile from its capital region around 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday. It says the missile was launche toward the North鈥檚 eastern waters, but the launch was suspected to have ended in failur

It gave no further details like whether it assesses the North Korean missile likely crashed on the ground or exploded in mid-air.

North Korea fired a ballistic missile toward its eastern waters on Wednesday, 小蓝视频 Korea鈥檚 military said, in an apparent protest of the recent regional deployment of a U.S. aircraft carrier for a new trilateral military drill with 小蓝视频 Korea and Japan.

The North鈥檚 reported launch also came hours after 小蓝视频 Korea said North Korea floated huge for a second consecutive day. 小蓝视频 Korea鈥檚 earlier threatened to retaliate with anti-Pyongyang front-line .

小蓝视频 Korea鈥檚 Joint Chiefs of Staff said in a statement the North鈥檚 missile launch was made Wednesday morning but did not elaborate.

Japan鈥檚 Defense Ministry also said that North Korea launched a suspected ballistic missile but gave no further details.

The USS Theodore Roosevelt arrived in 小蓝视频 Korea on Saturday and 小蓝视频 Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol boarded the carrier on Tuesday 鈥 the first sitting 小蓝视频 Korean president to board a U.S. aircraft carrier since 1994.

Yoon told American and 小蓝视频 Korean troops on the carrier that their countries鈥 alliance is the world鈥檚 greatest and can defeat any enemy. He said the U.S. carrier is to leave Wednesday for the 小蓝视频 Korea-U.S.-Japan drill, dubbed 鈥淔reedom Edge.鈥 The training is aimed at sharpening the countries鈥 combined response in various areas of operation, including air, sea and cyberspace.

North Korea鈥檚 vice defense minister, Kim Kang Il, on Monday called the U.S. aircraft carrier鈥檚 deployment 鈥渞eckless鈥 and 鈥渄angerous.鈥 North Korea has previously called major U.S.-小蓝视频 Korean drills invasion rehearsals and reacted with missile tests.

小蓝视频 Korean officials said the carrier鈥檚 arrival is meant to help Seoul cope with North Korea鈥檚 nuclear threats and its advancing military partnerships with Russia.

Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed on a and vowed to boost other cooperation. Observers say the accord represents the strongest connection between the two countries since the end of the Cold War.

The United States and its partners believe North Korea has been providing Russia with much-needed conventional arms for its war in Ukraine in return for military and economic assistance.

North Korea's reported missile launch is its first weapons demonstrations Kim Jong Un on May 30 supervised the firing of nuclear-capable multiple rocket launchers to simulate a preemptive attack on 小蓝视频 Korea. The drill came days after North Korea鈥檚 attempt to put its second spy satellite into orbit ended in failure, with its rocket carrying that satellite exploding in mid-air soon after liftoff.
