Melfort Mustangs, Weyburn Red Wings strike first in SJHL semi-finals

SJHL Final Four kicks off with the Red Wings and Mustangs prevailing in Game 1

TERRIERS 1, MUSTANGS 6
 

The Melfort Mustangs used a three goal 2nd period to power them to a 6-1 victory over the Yorkton Terriers in the opening game of the SJHL Semi-Final.

Swan River, Manitoba products Will Munro and Bo Eisnor each scored twice for the Mustangs, who got singles from Zac Somers and Zach Turner.

Terriers captain Jaron Desnoyers netted the lone goal for the road side that’ll visit Melfort for Game 2 once again on Saturday night looking to rebound.
 

Kristian Coombs made 28 saves on 29 shots in the Mustangs net to earn the victory, while Terriers netminder Callum Creig made 37 saves in the losing cause.

RED WINGS 3, BOMBERS 1

Angelo Zol was terrific making 39 saves to help the Weyburn Red Wings edge the Flin Flon Bombers 3-1 on the road in Game 1 of their Semi-Final matchup. 


Jerome Maharaj, Cyprus Smith-Davis and Blake Betson all scored for the Red Wings who led 3-0 after 20 minutes of play.

Ryder Ringor scored for the Bombers early in the second period but that’s as close as they would get. 


Game 2 goes again at the Whitney Forum in Flin Flon on Saturday night starting at 7:30 PM Manitoba time.
