Between The Lines: April 24, 2025. Legenadry Quarterback Darian Durant talks about CFL training camps.

You know the saying that hope springs eternal? That isn’t always the case when it comes to the opening of CFL training camps.

Let this digest for a moment. Two weeks from tomorrow, Saskatchewan Roughriders rookie camp will wrap up in Saskatoon, and veterans will arrive for the start of main camp.

For fans, optimism reigns supreme at this time of year, but legendary quarterback Darian Durant says that isn’t always the case for players.

“When you're good and you know you're good and you know you have a shot at a Grey Cup, you have the butterflies all over again. You're excited. You're ready for camp. But those years were when you knew your team was not as good. Back then, the moves that Calgary made or Mike Riley going over to Edmonton.”

“You knew when you were good enough to compete, and you knew those were the years that you felt good about camp. Luckily for me, Durant added that most of our years were like that. “There were a few that you were unsure about, but most of the years I was very excited and ready to go because I knew we had a chance to win a Grey Cup.”
