BALGONIE — White Butte RCMP say their vehicle was rammed during traffic stop Thursday and charges have been laid.
Around noon on June 20, White Butte RCMP received a report of an impaired driver at the intersection of Highway 1 and the Highway 662 overpass near Balgonie.
White Butte RCMP located the suspect vehicle in a commercial parking lot. The officers engaged their emergency lights and parked head-on with the suspect vehicle to conduct a traffic stop.
A release from RCMP says the suspect vehicle then drove forward, struck the police vehicle twice head-on, and fled. The police vehicle was damaged, but the officer driving the police vehicle was not physically injured.
Given the escalated safety risk, say RCMP, officers pursued the vehicle westbound on Highway 46 towards Pilot Butte. For safety reasons, a tire deflation device was set up and the suspect vehicle ran over it near the intersection of Highway 362 and Highway 46. The tires were flattened and the vehicle came to a stop.
Two adult females and an adult male were arrested at the scene.
A 33-year-old woman from Regina is charged with:
- assault on police officer with weapon;
- flight from peace officer;
- dangerous operation of motor vehicle;
- failure or refusal to comply with alcohol demand,; and
- operation while prohibited.
The investigation is ongoing and RCMP have no further details to provide at this time.
