REGINA - The City of Regina is issuing a call to residents near the new Permanent Emergency Shelter to take part in an upcoming focus group.
In a news release Monday, the city announced they are inviting property owners and residents within a 250-metre radius of the permanent emergency shelter location at 1600 Halifax Street to attend a focus group session.
Those sessions “will share an update on the shelter design, relationship building plans and looking to understand business safety priorities to inform next steps,” according to their news release.
Invitations were delivered Monday, and the city adds that any property owners and residents who did not receive an invite but feel they should have received one are 小蓝视频 urged to contact [email protected] by Thursday, Jan. 23.
Last fall, at their meeting Sept. 25, 2024, Regina council approved the permanent emergency shelter location at 1600 Halifax Street. The venue had been home to the Eagles Club.
During those discussions, council members received feedback from local residents with plenty of concerns raised about a lack of consultation. In response, council members made clear they wanted to see stepped-up consultations take place with the surrounding neighbourhood.
As part of that process, a community information session was held the night before the council meeting regarding the proposed permanent shelter. The information session took place in Regina’s Heritage area, with a large number nearby property owners and owners of adjacent businesses in attendance.
In approving the shelter location, council also directed administration to consult stakeholders and affected businesses about developing a neighbourhood maintenance compensation program to support businesses within a 250 metre radius.
The expectation is for the new permanent shelter to be up and running by this summer.
