REGINA — Regina is on the brink of a retail evolution as plans for a second Costco in the Queen City move closer to reality.
For years, social media has been abuzz with the possibility of a new location, and now a development application filed with the City of Regina seems to be confirming those rumours. A similar application was filed in 2017 – sparking rumours. That application was simply for moving the existing location at the time to further east in a newly developed area.
After the city filing – we can say the proposed site is at 8701-Dewdney Ave, nestled next to the Westerra neighborhood. The new build promises to bring over 14,000 square metres of shopping space, complete with a Costco gas station. This substantial addition is poised to meet the growing demands of Regina’s expanding population, offering a convenient shopping experience and serving rural customers from the west of Regina including the city of Moose Jaw.
Costco’s popularity in Regina, does seem to be an anomaly. The popular Facebook page for Kirkland enthusiasts and Costco faithful boasts more than 36,000 followers – with the company reporting Regina as a market that is often the top sales point in the country for everything from queso dip to “urban throw” blankets and woozoo fans (IYKYK). It seems like the city's enthusiasm for the big box experience that Costco brings – would warrant a second location.
The application is still under review, with public comments 小蓝视频 accepted until Aug. 14. and no timeline set for construction – the Queen City is still one step closer to a second iteration of the retail giant calling Regina Home.
