MOOSEJAWTODAY.COM -- The Moose Jaw U15A Ice have seen their stellar season come to an end.
The Ice dropped a 7-5 decision to the Abbotsford, B.C. Outlaws in their final round robin game on Friday to finish with a 3-3 record in the preliminary round, landing ninth overall in the standings and advancing to the championship round in Ile-Perrot, Que.
The local crew then faced the Windsor, Ont. Wildcats in their first playoff game Saturday, dropping a 4-1 decision and seeing their campaign come to a close.
The Ice finish their season with a 54-13-1 record through tournament, league, provincials and nationals play.
Saskatchewan’s other representatives were also eliminated Saturday, with the Regina Fighting Saints falling 2-0 to the White Rock, B.C. Renegades in their championship round game and the White Butte Storm losing 5-4 to the Camrose, Alta. Crossfire in their first consolation round contest.
Abbotsford 7, Moose Jaw 5
The Ice found themselves in tough against the undefeated Outlaws, but ended up giving the B.C. champs a close game nonetheless.
Moose Jaw took a 2-0 lead out of the first inning and after Abbotsford scored four runs in the top of the fourth, came right back to tie the game in the bottom of the inning. The Outlaws retook the lead with a pair of runs in the fifth before the teams exchanged runs in the sixth to close out scoring.
Tara Bell led the offence with a 2-for-3 showing that included a pair of triples and a run scored, while Charlize Hillmer was 2-for-4 with a double, run and run batted in. Kayli Koch crossed the plate twice.
Avery Garthus pitched two scoreless to start the game before Kenzi Hildebrand allowed four runs, three earned, on three hits over the next two innings. Taryn Friesen closed things out, giving up three runs, one earned, on three hits over the final three innings.
Windsor 4, Moose Jaw 1
The Wildcats did almost all their damage in the second inning, putting up three runs, before adding an insurance marker in the third. Moose Jaw got one back in the fourth but would get no closer and saw their season come to an end.
Hillmer had a 3-for-4 outing that included a double and Koch scored their lone run when Aspen Olafson drew a bases loaded walk in the fourth.
Friesen went the distance in the circle, allowing four runs on eight hits over six innings, striking out four and walking none.
Sophia Ciri got the win for Windsor, giving up the single run on seven hits while striking out three.
