MOOSE JAW — . Presented below are Adams’ answers to questions from the Moose Jaw Express.

Why are you running/What prompted you to run?

I’m running to bring accountable, sustainable leadership to Moose Jaw. With my experience in finance, IT, and business ownership, I am committed to making our city a better place to live, work, and visit. I see opportunities to enhance quality of life, improve infrastructure, and promote responsible fiscal management in ways that benefit all residents.

What do you hope to accomplish if elected?

If elected, I hope to strengthen Moose Jaw’s infrastructure, promote local businesses, and ensure city spending reflects fiscal accountability. I’m dedicated to building a safer, more inclusive community that attracts new residents and visitors, creating a Moose Jaw that prospers now and in the future.

What would be your top area(s) of focus?

1. Infrastructure: Prioritizing sustainable, long-term infrastructure planning to meet current and future needs.

2. Fiscal Accountability: Focusing on transparency and efficient spending while exploring alternative revenue sources to reduce reliance on taxation.

3. Community Development: Supporting initiatives that strengthen Moose Jaw’s community resources, especially for vulnerable populations, to make Moose Jaw a supportive and welcoming place.

What issues do you think need to be addressed in Moose Jaw?

Moose Jaw needs to address infrastructure improvements, economic diversification, and provide stronger support for vulnerable populations. As a tourist destination, Moose Jaw should present its best side, ensuring clean, safe streets, well-maintained services, and amenities that reflect our community’s values.

How would you make life more affordable for residents?

I would prioritize responsible spending, ensuring money spent directly benefits residents. Infill housing can help achieve affordability, offering mixed residential options that revitalize under-leveraged areas and expand the city’s tax base. Additionally, new partnerships and revenue streams can help alleviate the tax burden, making life in Moose Jaw more affordable.

How would you rein in excessive and/or unnecessary spending? Would you consider cutting taxes or reducing projects?

Through careful review of the city’s budget, I would identify and advocate to eliminate non-essential spending. By focusing on core services and necessary projects, we can cut back on excess costs. If sustainable savings are achieved, I would support considering tax reductions where they benefit residents without compromising essential services.

Would you approve of using taxpayers’ money to support the Hilton Hotel project and/or a related parkade?

I would closely examine the long-term benefits and risks of any project before committing taxpayer dollars. Any investment must bring measurable benefits to the community, and I believe in making these decisions transparently to ensure they align with Moose Jaw’s growth goals.

How would you address the issues facing the community’s vulnerable residents?

I would collaborate with local organizations to support programs that provide job training, housing resources, and mental health support for those in need. Moose Jaw should be a community that offers resources to improve quality of life and opportunities for everyone.

How would you enhance security or safety in the community?

I would prioritize collaboration between law enforcement and community organizations, ensuring they have the resources to keep Moose Jaw safe. Adding cameras in key public areas, alongside improved lighting and initiatives that address the root causes of crime, would create a safer environment for residents and visitors alike.

What steps would you take to increase economic growth or encourage businesses to move here?

Creating a business-friendly environment, showcasing Moose Jaw’s strengths, and investing in infrastructure that supports businesses are essential steps. By streamlining city processes and promoting Moose Jaw’s appeal, we can attract businesses seeking a supportive community and skilled workforce.

Would you halt spending money on the agri-food industrial park until an anchor tenant is found?

I believe that continuing investment in the agri-food industrial park demonstrates Moose Jaw’s commitment to economic development and positions us for future growth. Maintaining momentum on this project will help attract potential tenants and show that Moose Jaw is serious about expanding its economic base.

What is your long-term vision for the community 10 to 20 years down the road? How would you bring that to fruition?

I envision Moose Jaw as a thriving, welcoming city known for strong infrastructure, a diverse economy, and high quality of life. Achieving this vision requires strategic partnerships, responsible development, and investment in Moose Jaw’s unique strengths. By focusing on sustainable growth, we can ensure a vibrant future for our community.

Why are you the best person for this role?

With almost two decades in finance, governance experience, and a commitment to building a strong community, I am prepared to represent Moose Jaw effectively. I bring a balanced, results-oriented approach that combines fiscal accountability, strategic planning, and a dedication to seeing Moose Jaw succeed.

What are your top skills/qualities/attributes?

1. Financial Expertise: Deep experience in financial analysis, forecasting, and financial management, ensuring efficiency, accountability and transparency.

2. Strategic Vision: Committed to sustainable, long-term planning for Moose Jaw. Let's take a 100- or 200-year view and set up generations to come and prosper.
