MOOSEJAWTODAY.COM -- Giving up goals in bunches is never a good thing, but if the Moose Jaw Warriors are going to have it happen, better now than when the Western Hockey League regular season starts in a week’s time.
The Warriors twice gave up three goals in less than three minutes to the Swift Current Broncos on Friday night, eventually dropping an 8-2 decision in pre-season action in Swift Current.
Owen Berge had a goal and an assist for Moose Jaw, with Brayden Schuurman picking up the Warriors’ other marker as they trailed 4-0 after the first and 7-1 after two.
As alluded to, almost all the damage the Warriors took came in two bursts.
The Bronco’s Ty Coupland, Dawson Gerwing and Parker Rondeau scored three goals from 3:51 to 4:49 of the first period before Coupland, Connor Gabriel and Van Eger scored three from 17:02 to 18:48 of the second.
Brady Birnie scored the Broncos’ other marker in the third.
Dimitri Fortin got the start in goal and turned aside 19 shots, while Joey Rocha had 27 saves for Swift Current.
The two teams are right back in action on Saturday night at the Moose Jaw Events Centre in the final game of the pre-season for both teams. Puck drop is 7 p.m.
