Lloyd Norman Soroka

Lloyd Norman Soroka born on July 26, 1928 at Danbury, Saskatchewan eldest son of Metro and Victoria Soroka. Lloyd鈥檚 father farmed in the Danbury District where Lloyd, his sister, Ann and brother, Julian attended Danbury School. He took his grade 11 at Sturgis, Saskatchewan, then went on to St. Joseph鈥檚 College in Yorkton. Lloyd later attended teacher鈥檚 college in Moose Jaw, also known as 鈥淣ormal School.鈥 After completing his studies he began teaching at Delight School at Goodwater, Saskatchewan. The following year he taught at North Weyburn School, then moved to the 小蓝视频 Weyburn School. In 1950 he decided to change vocations, graduating as a Psychiatric Nurse in 1953. Lloyd met Arvella Heebner in 1949 when he was teaching school at North Weyburn. In 1953 they married and raised four children, one daughter and three sons. In 1964 Lloyd decided to change vocations once again and went into Social Work. After returning to the University of Regina he received his degree in Social Work, then retired from this career in 1985. Retirement was short lived, he began working at Miles Agency where he stayed for the next ten years, selling farm insurance. Lloyd struggled with his health after having open heart surgery in 2003. In 2007 Lloyd and Arvella decided to sell their home and moved into an apartment. Lloyd was an active church member and was involved with the Diabetic Association, Mental Health Association, Weyburn Group Homes, Weyburn Public School Board, Associate member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Rotary Club Member, Director of the Credit Union, Director of Wheatland Senior Centre and Weyburn Agricultural Society. One of Lloyd鈥檚 passions was farming. He spent many hours helping his dad on his days off. Lloyd and Arvella loved to travel to such places as China, Alaska and Hawaii. He loved playing ball, curling, reading, playing cards and whenever possible hunting and fishing with his sons. Lloyd loved family gatherings, especially when he became a grandfather and great grandfather. Lloyd will be missed by many. Lloyd was predeceased by his parents, Metro and Victoria Soroka; brother, Julian Soroka; sister, Ann Robb; nephew, Dale Soroka; sisters and brothers in law, Evelyn (Martin) Scholp and Art Jennings. Lloyd is survived by his wife of 62 years, Arvella Soroka of Weyburn, SK; daughter, Sherry Soroka (Dave Cassell), sons, Dwight Soroka (Maria Bleau); David Soroka (Pat Mudry) and Tim Soroka; ten grandchildren, Ryan Eisenzimmer (Cindy), David Eisenzimmer (Kristen), Brittney Fawcett (Mark), Jayden Soroka (Vivian Belik), Nicole LeBlanc (Luc),聽 Tanner聽聽 Soroka (Michelle), Brianne Soroka (Mike Singer), Brett, Genna and Hannah Soroka; eleven great grandchildren; brother in law, Raymond (Dolly) Heebner; sister in law, Edna Jennings as well as nieces, nephews, other聽 relatives and friends.聽 A Memorial Service was held Saturday, April 2, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Weyburn, Saskatchewan with Pastor Martin Olson and Marjorie McLeod, CLA officiating. Interment followed at Green Acres Memorial Gardens, Weyburn, Saskatchewan. Pallbearers were Brett Soroka, Jayden Soroka, Tanner Soroka, Luc LeBlanc, Mark Fawcett, Ryan Eisenzimmer and David Eisenzimmer. Honourary Pallbearers were Bill Koroluk, Tyrone Fisher, Herb Grams, Evan Goranson, Keith Baudria and Gordon Button. Donations in memory of Lloyd may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada.
