Jean Catherine McNaughton passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 26, 2013 in Weyburn. She was predeceased by her parents, William and Annie Aulie; husband, Dennis McNaughton; infant son, Dugald McNaughton; sisters, Marion Marshall and Stella Kenndy. Jean Catherine Aulie was born on March 26, 1927 to William and Annie Aulie on their farm outside of Ryerson. She was the third oldest of eight. With seven girls and only one boy Jean delighted in getting to help her father out on the farm, as she was somewhat of a tomboy. She went to elementary school just down the road from the farm at the Bond School. She completed high school in Fairlight and then went on to study nursing with the Grey Nuns in Regina. After finishing her Registered Nursing training she travelled to New York City where she received specialty training in maternal care. Jean loved nursing and took great pride in her work. When asked she would say she never really stopped nursing, as she continued to take care of people the rest of her life, which is very true. Her formal career, however, started in Saskatoon where she worked as an RN. While raising her family she worked causal as a special nurse at Weyburn Union hospital. She later worked at Mount St. Mary long-term care home as a registered nurse and activity worker. Nursing also indirectly introduced her to her future husband. Her roommate in nursing school, Genevieve McNaughton, would always talk about her wonderful brother Dennis. Eventually she got to see a picture of him and she says she knew instantly that this handsome farmer was the man she was going to marry. And sure enough she did on April 6, 1953 at Our Lady of Fatima church in Fairlight. Dennis and Jean moved out to his family farm outside of Weyburn where they lived until 1991 when they relocated to town. Jean and Dennis were true sweet hearts. They continued to be an inseparable duo even when Dennis got sick in his later years. She visited him daily at Souris Valley Care home and took care of him until the very end. Jean was definitely a woman with many talents and interests. After nursing she opened a second hand clothing store called wee lads and lassies. She was also active with Pro-life and the Weyburn's Farmers Market. She volunteered with countless organizations from helping with Meals on Wheels to teaching Catechism to taking seniors on trips. She also volunteered regularly at Tatagwa helping with mass and sitting with sick and dying patients. Another of her interests was traveling; she and Dennis went on numerous family trips with their children including a camping trip on a beach near Tofino and a road trip down to California. Other favorite travels included a trip to the Holy land, a cruise to Alaska, and going to see a Blue Jays game in Seattle. To say Jean was an avid Blue Jays fan was an understatement. You could be talking to her on the phone and then out of nowhere she'd say - "the Jays are on - gotta go" and before you know it she would have hung up on you. And she stayed a devoted fan until the very end. Her love for baseball goes back to her youth. Her father was a talented pitcher and she apparently followed in his footsteps. At the Aulie Centennial, Jean was adamant to get in on the baseball game and was quite insulted when the team insisted she have a pinch runner, 小蓝视频 81 years old and all. She was never one to let anything stop her. She also enjoyed ice-skating and curling. Another important element of Jean's personality was her faith. She was a devout Catholic with a strong faith that never seemed to waver. Throughout the years Jean was an active member in the CWL, participated in the Eucharistic ministry, sang in the choir at St. Vincent de Paul church, took part in a number of local pilgrimages, and numerous other ministries. All that said, of the many hats Jean wore the one she put the most energy in was probably in 小蓝视频 a mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Jean had a total of seven children, seven children-in-law, 15 grandkids, and three great grandkids. She spent her life helping others. Despite having little she was incredibly generous. Jean was as genuine as they come and dependable: you knew she'd be there to help you if she could, you knew she'd have porridge ready in the morning, and if you were lucky she may even have gingersnaps in the tins on her counters. When writing this eulogy I thought about how Grandma's personality was kind of like those gingersnaps - a little hard and crunchy on the outside with a definite spice, but most importantly they were comforting, loveable, and sweet at the core. Jean lived life to the fullest. She kept active until these very last few months and enjoyed socializing at Bison Manor and with other friends. Her friends were all very important and she treasured the time she spent with them. Her strength will be missed by her family, she was our anchor. She brought us together, cared for us, and kept us grounded. She taught us always to be grateful and kept us on track. She was an inspiration and a truly unique individual who will not be forgotten. She was a rock for many of us. And her absence leaves a great hole in our hearts. Jean will be lovingly remembered by her children, Danny (Joan) McNaughton and their children, Jill, Monte and Grady (Nicole), Mary McNaughton (Farhad Soofi) and their daughter, Shireen, Maggie (Rob) Austin and their children, Danielle and Diana, Patricia (Mitch) Meyer and their children, Laurie and Joshua, Jim (Melody) McNaughton and their children, Tarryn, Dylan and Shauna, Cathy (Steve) King and their children, Jacob, Wyatt and Katelyn, Judy McNaughton (Michel Boutin) and their son, Xavier; great grandchildren, Graci, Levi and Lennox as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Prayers were said on Sunday, September 29 at 7:30 PM and a Catholic Funeral Mass was celebrated on Monday, September 30 at 10:30 AM, with Father Gerry Bauche celebrating at St. Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church, Weyburn. Interment took place at Hillcrest Cemetery, Weyburn. Donations in memory of Jean may be made to Tatagwa View at 808 Souris Valley Road, Weyburn, SK S4H 2Z9.
