Gordon Ledingham

Gordon Ledingham, late of Weyburn, passed away May 8, 2014, at the age of 89 years. Gordon was predeceased by his wife Margaret Ledingham; parents Walter and Mary Ledingham; and brothers: Wray, Elmer, Al, Archie and Bill. Gordon is survived by his children: Lois (Ron) Campbell, Okotoks, AB, Glenn (Patty) Ledingham, North Vancouver, BC, Shella Ledingham Vernon, BC; grandchildren: Frazer and Graham Campbell, Adam, Logan, Rhett and Rylee Haubrich, Griffin and John Ledingham as well as several nieces and nephews. Gordon was born to Mary and Walter Ledingham of Colgate in 1924. The youngest of six brothers, he lost his dad at the age of four and was raised by his mom and older brothers, Bill, Wray, Alan, Elmer and Archie. Having always been good at designing and building, he left the farm for Weyburn at 16 with his customized car (his "bug") and $5.00 to build kitchen cabinetry for a local family. He saw opportunity for his future in Weyburn and stayed, building houses and starting GC Ledingham Construction. He met his future wife, Margaret, while delivering milk from the farm to the Weyburn Dairy and says he knew from the first time he saw here that he was going to marry her. He did, and he loved her and cared for her every day from then until her passing of Alzheimer's in 2012. Margaret and Gordon started their married life in a suite Gordon renovated in the Holder Block and moved through a succession of houses that he built until they finally settled into the house on 7th Street, where the rumpus room (with its pool table and piano) entertained many, many friends and relatives over the years. Three kids (Lois, Shella and Glenn) came along to help keep Margaret and Gordon busy. With summers spent at the lake (in cabins Gordon built) the kids grew under the guidance and support of their parents, went on to have families of their own and are now living in Okotoks (Lois), Vernon (Shell) and North Vancouver (Glenn). Travelling to Mesa to see brother Bill and his wife Marion and to escape the cold became a favorite winter ritual for Marg and Gordon and eventually they had a place of their own in Desert Sands that became their home away from home. Golfing, dancing and enjoying happy hours with their many friends became highlights of their lives. When Margaret was diagnosed with Alzheimer's, Gordon looked after her at home as long as he could. When a heart attack made it impossible for him to continue to do so and Margaret became a resident at Souris Valley and later Tatagwa. Gordon spent time with Margy every day to feed her, sit with her and give her the love and attention he had for all of their life together. He continued to visit her every day from 1998 until Marg's passing in 2012. This dedication to his Margy is the best summation of the man Gordon was. His family will be forever indebted and grateful for his love for their mom and for them. A funeral service for Gordon was held on Monday, May 12 at 11:00 a.m. from the Grace United Church, Weyburn with Rev. M Barnabas, officiating. Interment followed at Hillcrest Cemetery, Weyburn. Pallbearers were Ron Milleker, Grant Marinos, Wally Zarry, Ed Kitchen, Alex Miles and Kim Thorson. In lieu of flowers, Gordon would have appreciated contributions to the Alzheimer's Society in memory of Margaret. Arrangements were entrusted to RD Family Funeral Chapel & Crematorium, Weyburn (306-848-0333 ~ 1-888-848-0333).
