Clarence Harold Maurer, 84, of Cochrane, Alberta, passed away peacefully with family at his side on Saturday, April 26, 2014. He was born December 6, 1929 to George and Nora Maurer in St. Boswells. Clarence will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 59 years, Jean (Kraus), his six children and 11 grandchildren; Laverne (Morgan) Williams [Naomi, Elias], Todd; Jeff, Kevin (Dawn) [Tylor, Aimee], Lisa (Mark) Sombach [Sydney, Jake] and Trevor (Kristie) [Ryan, Allyson, Tyler, Zachary, Megan]; sisters Viola, Doris, Mabel, Ruby, numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers Ernie, Victor and Elmer. Clarence had a passion for sports and music. He met his wife Jean while playing in a band in Hodgeville. After marriage, they lived in Moose Jaw and Regina where he worked in the grocery business. They moved to Weyburn in 1966 where his primary occupation was farming. In 1983 he opened "Maurer's Meats" and was known for extraordinary quality products. Clarence had a passion for excellence and took pride in everything he did, which was a quality that was instilled in his children. He was an avid golfer and curler and was a member of the Weyburn and Cochrane Curling clubs and Golf Clubs. Clarence enjoyed many hours of laughter with family and friends. All who knew him remember his quick wit and hearty laugh. He will be dearly missed. A Catholic mass to celebrate Clarence's resilient life will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, May 1 at St. Mary's Parish, Cochrane. Memorial donations may be made to the Tom Baker Cancer Centre in Calgary.
