Arthur “Robert” Thue

Arthur “Robert” Thue was born October 27, 1947, at Radville. He passed away at the age of 68 on March 14, 2016, at the Radville Marion Health Centre. Bob was predeceased by his parents, Art and Ione Thue. He leaves to mourn his loving wife of 46 years, Ruth of Lake Alma, children Del (Charlene) Thue of Lake Alma and Lisa Marks of Central Butte; his grandchildren whom he loved dearly and was so proud of, Dane and Cayla Thue and Cash and Pistal Marks. He was a special brother to Richard (Annette) Thue, Brian (Lorette) Thue, Betty (Garry) Schmidt, Lorie de Vries and Lennie (Don) Waddell. He also leaves Ruth’s family and parents, Lawrence and Elsie Backlun, brother Orville (Pat) Backlun, sisters Bernice Fradette and Linda (Kim) Ochitwa, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Bob was the second child born to Art and Ione Thue. He was raised on the family farm along with his siblings and special cousin, Jack Mooney, who very soon became like another brother. Their early years were spent doing everything that four boys close in age could think to do. Bob’s roots ran deep in the land. His love of farming was very evident. He purchased his first land in 1972 and moved his family onto the farm in 1979. That was the beginning of a lifetime of farming and raising cows. Bob’s early employment consisted of working seismograph, Larsen’s Construction and PFRA. His career in the oilfield began in 1972 with Shell Canada at Midale. During this time, he purchased land at Lake Alma and farmed on days off and after work. After СƵ at Shell for seven years, the call of the land was strong and he left Shell and became a full-time farmer. After getting the house built and settled in, the oil patch called again. Bob then worked for Enbridge for 31 years retiring in October of 2010. Bob was a very community-minded person. He spent many years serving the community, some of these СƵ Lake Alma Wheat Pool, Lake Alma Rec. Board, Lake Alma Hall Board, Elks, Radville Hospital Board and Ambulance Board. In 1997, Bob started as councilor for the RM of Lake Alma. In 2007, he became Reeve, which was a position he held with pride and dedication. This involvement resulted in Bob becoming a highly respected member of multiple communities and his dedication to these communities resulted in many long-lasting friendships which he truly valued. Bob’s passion was sports, either playing or watching. Curling, slo-pitch and football were his favorites. He joined a hockey team and played his first organized game at the age of 40. He was a Roughrider season ticket holder for 40 years. Hunting, camping, boating, gardening and anything involving his John Deere yard tractor he enjoyed. Bob was a strong family man and his family meant the world to him. From the birth of his son, Del, to the adoption of his daughter, Lisa, and the arrival of four grandchildren, Dane, Cayla, Cash and Pistal, and watching them grow into the special people they have become today. He was very proud of Del and Charlene’s work ethics and their ability to take over and do what needed to be done and Lisa’s riding skills and her perseverance to follow her dreams. His pride shone when Dane enlisted in the military, Cayla’s trip to New Zealand and her passion for cattle, Cash’s ability to construct Lego’s in no time at all and his photographic-like memory of events and Pistal’s need to help with everything from chores to Grandpa’s sugar tests and insulin injections. Reunions, family suppers, picnics and holiday meals were very important to him. Bob loved to travel. The Caribbean cruise and Pearl Harbor were highlights. His last trip was to the Grand Canyon. Bob had a strong faith. He loved his church and his church family. When he was diagnosed with cancer nearly three years ago, he always said his life was in the hands of God. He said “It is what it is” and he never complained. He knew every day was a gift and appreciated every day he was given. The Funeral Service was held Saturday, March 19, at Holy Family Parish, Radville, with John Smith officiating. Interment followed at Nordalen Cemetery. Active Pallbearers were James Backlun, Ryan de Vries, Riley Schmidt, Logan Waddell, Aaron Thue and Daniel Thue.
