- Introducing the CEO
Hello. My name is Marga Cugnet, the Interim President/CEO of Sun Country Health Region (SCHR).
Welcome to this new monthly column in your local newspaper.
This column is one part of a regional communications strategy we are employing this year to help inform you about Sun Country Health Region. There will be several focuses to the column, including information about the services available to you, the great work our staff is doing to provide programs, health care around the province and how this Region fits within that system, and how the decisions are made to ensure that we can provide you with the best health care possible.
I welcome this opportunity to talk to you.
As a new CEO, I want you to get to know me better.
I bring to the position all of the expertise I have gained over the 30 years I have worked within the health system in Saskatchewan. My interest in health care started even before post secondary school and led me to major in administration (graduating with a Bachelor of Science Nursing degree, with Honours). I have extensive experience in many of the areas in nursing including acute, long term care and home care.
As well, over the past 15 years, I have expanded that role, serving for 15 years as a member of the senior executive team for the District and Region. I've been responsible not just for nursing, but many other disciplines such as emergency medical services, pharmacy, laboratory, medical imaging and health records. I also have participated on several provincial committees in order to gain further perspectives about the system.
One of the things about the new position that I'm enjoying very much is hearing about all the work that is going on in this Region to treat and prevent illness. Our staff is innovative and works hard to provide care within "best practice" models. We are there, in many cases, 24 hours a day, seven days a week to help you and your family.
But I do have to admit that sometimes in the past I think we've been so busy doing the work, and planning for the future, that we've forgotten to tell you what we're doing and why.
We're trying to change that this year.
We will focus more on providing the information you need about us this year. Beginning this month, I will discuss an issue of interest to you each month to help you understand what we do and how we do it. I hope you will turn to this column to read about health care issues of interest to you.
As part of the process of providing more information, I am also planning a meeting with each of your local media outlets over the next few months. The goal is to put a face to Sun Country Health Region, whether it is me, a member of the Regional Health Authority, or one of our staff members.
In the meantime, we will also continue with our blog at http://suncountryblog.com/ that provides up-to-date information about the Regional Health Authority and our programs, as well as our website at www.suncountry.sk.ca that gathers together all the programs and services we provide from our 28 different facilities.
We will also distribute 27,000 copies of our newsletter throughout the Region four times a year and we will continue to encourage members of the public to come to the monthly meetings of the Regional Health Authority.
We are proud of the many communities we work with, often in partnership, to provide the best health care. We hope to build on these strong relationships in the year to come.
