There have been many times during my membership on city council that I have been proud of the citizens of Estevan and area. Obviously the hard work, co-operation, dedication and banding together during the flood earlier this year was special.
Thursday was also a great day in Estevan. I would like to thank all of our area for coming out to support this celebration. It was a working day in the middle of the week and to get the numbers of people out was truly heartwarming.
A big thank you goes out to the committee from Estevan football who did most of the planning and set up. There are too many people involved to recognize publicly but I do want to mention the names of Wanda Harron, Brenda Lyons and Val Paulson. From attending a couple of the meetings, I know that these three women were the driving force behind the idea of getting involved in the competition and the eventual planning.
It was great to see so many of the actual football players helping with the moving of equipment, tables and chairs. There were at least 75 volunteers that were needed by the committee and I am sure they had far more than that. The cross-Canada publicity was great for our city and the day was a lot of fun.
