The present system we have in Carlyle works well so why change it?
The proposed changes are flawed as you will create a 2 block oval circus of motorists trying to find a parking space on their side so they won't have to lug their goods across 2 lanes of traffic. The only problem with the present system is the speed limit is too high. Backing into traffic with little or no visibility due to the size of vehicles parked beside you is a difficult and unsafe practice due to the speed of approaching vehicles.
Drop the speed limit to 20 km/hr on Main Street as this is not a city. You can drive across town in 2 Minutes so what's the hurry? Most motorists should be commended for their courtesy and patience, not penalized by a 2 block parade.
There is an old proverb that goes; If it's working, don't fix it as the fix is usually expensive, unnecessary, and doesn't improve the situation.
The other alternative would be parallel parking on both sides of the centre boulevard as well as curbside. This would be very entertaining!
