Get out and get indoors!

Jennifer's Journal

It's that time of year again; the time of year when we all start planning for colder weather, despite the warmth of recent days.

Residents across the city are busy joining indoor fitness programs in anticipation of days too cold to play/walk/jog outdoors.

What could help you beat those seasonal blues better than a dip in the pool? The indoor pool, that is. Between the hot tub, the sauna and the heated floors, you won't want to leave the Weyburn Leisure Centre on a cold day.

I have decided, once again, to join several others at the Weyburn Leisure Centre to participate in one of their many indoor pool fitness programs. The programs are very affordable and the slight warmth of the water on a chilly evening is as therapeutic as the physical exercise that ensues.

One new program in Weyburn that will really keep you warm is Hot Yoga at Sadhana Yoga. The temperature at the studio is raised to a cozy 31-degree Celsius and the air is infused with a warm mist of essential oil blends. All this makes for a relaxing and detoxifying workout.

Of course, we can't forget about hockey and curling. These favourite winter pastimes may not take place in a 31-degree room but the physical exertion is sure to get your blood boiling!

Men's, women's or mixed, morning or evening, there is likely a league to suit your fancy at the Curling Club. Although registration for many of these leagues has already taken place, you can probably still sneak your way in if they have space.

Still haven't heard of anything to meet your needs? There is always something going on at the rink!

Did you know the City of Weyburn not only offers recreational hockey leagues during the fall and winter, but also recreational volleyball leagues? Registration is still open, but only until October 12 (or sooner if they fill-up).

Weyburn's fitness clubs are offering a variety of classes to get you moving this fall. But with names like Sin Fitness, Boot Camp and Rope Burn, you may find it easier to brave the cold than brave these classes! Brave or not, these classes are sure to thicken your skin against the winter weather to come.

With the sunny, warm fall weather we've been having most of us are not ready to start hibernating yet, but it's best to plan now for the inevitable. Act fast; you don't want to sit around all winter, do you?
