The Alida community extends sincere sympathy to the Kennedy family on the death of their father Hugh (late of Regina, formally of Nottingham) on May 8 at the age of 89 years. Â
He was predeceased by his wife Yvonne (2019), his parents Joe and Kathleen Kennedy, and sisters, Doreen Wilmot, Phyllis Millions and Joyce McKenna. Hugh is survived by his children – daughter Leigh Kennedy (Murray Wale), sons Ryan and Scott, nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, as well as his in-laws, Doug Wilmot, Carol Thomas, Shirley Thomas, Yvonne Lipka and numerous nieces and nephews. Â
He worked for Mobil Oil for many years before taking over the family farm at Nottingham. A celebration of life for both Yvonne and Hugh will be held at a later date.Â
Once again the village has put out the flower pots along Centre Street to help beautify our village. Please help by sponsoring a pot; just sign up to plant the flowers and look after them. Do this at the post office.  It will be much appreciated by everyone. It surely does look nice to see all the different flowers that are chosen by those who chose a pot.Â
This past Sunday was an extra special one for me. First, my neighbour was so kind to come and till my garden in the forenoon (it hasn’t been so nicely tilled for years, so soft to work in). Then later in the afternoon a daughter-in-law and three granddaughters came to deliver their Mother’s Day gift by helping to plant my garden – boy that surely didn’t take them long. This also included planting the garden potatoes, with help from son number one, who did some of the digging of the holes while the girls did the rest. The girls also helped transplant some of my flower pots and of course my flower beds as well. Â
This was a great week for our guys – they finished their seeding this past Saturday. Now it’s only the cleanup of the machinery and all the other little extras that they find to do. I would imagine that a lot of the seeding has been completed or at least nearly completed. It has been a long dry successful season for seeding, maybe with some minor breakdowns but otherwise uneventful, thank goodness. Â
Time to wish a very happy birthday to all those who will be celebrating their birthdays this coming week – Karlee Boettcher, Derek Campbell, Jennifer Peterson, Cheryl Harrison, Dennis Hull and Dorothy Zelionka. I do hope everyone will have a great day and many more to come.  Â
This coming weekend is a long weekend – Victoria Day, a sure sign that summer months are soon here. Enjoy the long weekend. Finally the trees are leafing out and turning green. The lawn is slowly growing, making one think of getting the lawn mower out of storage and putting it to work. Â
