The Editor,
I am glad to see that I do not sit alone on how our City operates.
I give Kim Hardie thumbs up on his recent letter to the editor and, yes Kim, you are correct, the citizens of Estevan do tolerate this approach. All they say is why phone, they will not do anything anyway.
We do have a city clerk though that has a sense of humor as I received a T-shirt from him the other day with a circle indicating the world and an inscription around it that read "Pissing the whole planet off one person at a time." Thanks Lyndon and I will wear it.
Since we have had our new garbage collection, many times I have expressed my displeasure on the service, have taken pictures and also made a video of my case in our back alley. This summer I had a six week period where my container was properly replaced in a container I had made at Fusion Industries. The garbage contractor has tried to remove it but were unable to pick it out of the ground or destroy it like they did my garbage container (which was replaced by the way with a new one).
To date, absolutely nothing has been done about this. I have also brought to the attention of several people at city hall that the garbage containers for commercial use do not have proper enclosed areas for them. This has also been met with blind results.
We have a city manager that is in charge of this and he simply ignores these problems. I think it may be a good time for our city council to take a good look at what is actually happening with this contractor.
We also have a couple Councilors that are walkers. They should try and walk on the sidewalk on Rooney Road if they are able to get around the re-bar, cement trucks, half-ton trucks, and front-end loaders, etc. And if they look north they will see paper, cardboard and plastic lying all over the place. What happened with our city inspectors?
We should also know that we are supplying our city employees with bottled water. Yes, that is correct, bottled water. I am told by our mayor that there is nothing wrong with our city water. Then why are we paying for it? Most of the outside employees use the local coffee shops for their coffee anyway. The total cost of the water was $3,400 through the end of August.
This should be a great topic to discuss at the local coffee shops and more than likely in closed council.
