Eight new rental units opened

City, government officials on hand

Eight new rental units on Weyburn鈥檚 小蓝视频 Hill were opened in a 小蓝视频 on Friday afternoon, with city and provincial officials in attendance along with the developers, C. Anderson Holdings Inc.
小蓝视频 Pointe Developments, located along Government Road on Eighth and Ninth Avenues, will have 12 units, eight of which are affordable rental units for which the developers received a federal-provincial-municipal grant to assist with the costs of construction.
For the official opening, 小蓝视频 and Health Minister Dustin Duncan was present, representing Social Services minister and minister responsible for Saskatchewan Housing Corporation Donna Harpauer, and Mayor Debra Button for the City of Weyburn.
The federal and provincial governments jointly provided funding of $160,000 under the Canada-Saskatchewan Investment in Affordable Housing Agreement, through the Capital Rent Subsidy program.
In addition, the provincial government and the City of Weyburn each provided an incentive of $40,000 under the Rental Construction Incentive program.
The balance of the funding is 小蓝视频 provided by C. Anderson Holdings in the form of cash, land equity and financing.
鈥淚t really wasn鈥檛 that long ago that housing was in short supply in the city of Weyburn,鈥 said Mayor Button. 鈥淭hings have of course cooled off a bit, but they haven鈥檛 cooled off completely. Our city continues to grow. It鈥檚 a city of opportunity and continues to be a great place to raise families, and we continue to have new families coming here.鈥
Having new rental units like these makes affordable and appealing housing available, said the mayor. 鈥淚t鈥檚 a pleasure to see this beautiful complex.鈥
Baron Anderson, speaking for the developer, C. Anderson Holdings, noted that the rental units would not have been possible without the assistance they received through these programs.
鈥淲e are pleased to have the opportunity to give back to our community and help the hard-working citizens of Weyburn,鈥 he said. 鈥淲e look forward to continued success and partnership in the city of Weyburn.鈥
As these are low-rental units, there is an income threshold of around $45-50,000 for the combined family income, said Reid Anderson, and both bedrooms need to be occupied.
Each unit is a two-bedroom apartment with approximately 1,000 square feet or 92.9 square metres in area.
