The Assiniboia Livestock Auction held its pre-sorted Charolais Cross and Angus Cross calf and yearling sale on October 24 with 2,430 head sold. It also held a regular cull cow and bull sale on October 25 with 581 head sold, and a pre-sorted Angus and Angus Cross calf and yearling sale on October 28 with 3,809 head sold.
At the October 24 calf and yearling sale, there were nine weight categories of young steers and heifers up for sale. Steer calves weighing 300 to 400 lbs. averaged $2.70 per lb., selling up to $2.80 per lb., while those weighing between 400 and 450 lbs. averaged $2.54 per lb. selling up to $2.61 per lb. Yearling steers weighing 450 to 500 lbs. averaged $2.46 per lb. and reached $2.61 per lb. while those in the 500 to 550 lb. category sold on average at $2.38 per lb. selling up to $2.60 per lb.
Steer yearlings in the weight category of 550 to 600 lbs. averaged $2.24 per lb., reaching $2.46 per lb. Those in the weight category of 600 to 650 lbs. sold on average at $2.24 per lb., reaching $2.35 per lb. Steer yearlings in the weight category of 650 to 700 lbs. sold on average at $2.20 per lb. and sold up to $2.31 per lb., while those weighing 700 to 800 lbs. sold on average at $2.13 per lb. reaching $2.26 per lb. Steer yearlings weighing 800 to 900 lbs. averaged $1.84 per lb. reaching $2.04 per lb.
Heifer calves in the weight category of 300 to 400 lbs. averaged $2.19 per lb. selling up to $2.30 per lb. Those weighing 400 to 450 lbs. sold at $2.09 per lb. reaching up to $2.16 per lb. Heifer calves weighing 450 to 500 lbs. sold on average at $2.08 per lb. selling up to $2.24 per lb., while those weighing 500 to 550 lbs. averaged $2.06 per lb. reaching $2.24 per lb.
Heifer calves in the 550 to 600 lb. weight category sold on average at $2.03 per lb. selling up to $2.18 per lb., while those in the 600 to 650 lb. weight category averaged $2.02 per lb. reaching $2.18 per lb. Heifer calves in the weight category of 650 to 700 lbs. sold on average at $1.97 per lb. reaching $2.09 per lb., while those 700 to 800 lbs. averaged $1.90 per lb. selling up to $1.96 per lb. Heifer yearlings weighing 800 to 900 lbs. averaged $1.63 per lb. reaching $1.75 per lb.
At the October 25 regular sale, heiferettes sold between $1.42 to $1.59 per lb. D1 and D2 cows sold from $0.83 to $1.10 per lb., while D3 cows sold between $0.51 and $0.82 per lb. Canner cows sold between $0.30 and $0.50 per lb. Slaughter bulls reached prices between $0.89 and $1.26 per lb.
At the October 28 calf and yearling sale, steer calves weighing 300 to 400 lbs. averaged $2.79 per lb. selling up to $2.90 per lb. Those weighing between 400 and 450 lbs. averaged $2.57 per lb. selling up to $2.63 per lb. Steer calves in the weight category of 450 to 500 lbs. averaged $2.46 per lb. reaching $2.63 per lb., while those in the 500 to 550 lb. category sold on average at $2.39 per lb. selling up to $2.49 per lb.
Steer calves in the weight category of 550 to 600 lbs. averaged $2.27 per lb. reaching $2.40 per lb. Those in the weight category of 600 to 650 lbs. sold on average at $2.22 per lb. reaching $2.25 per lb.
