The Weyburn Red Wings stunned their hosts, the Estevan Bruins, Saturday night with three unanswered goals in the first period. Jesse Ross would strike first with help from Bruce Keegan and Drew George at the 8-minute mark. Then Coltyn Sanderson would increase the Wings' lead at the 13:36 mark of the first period with assists going to Brayden Kmita and T.J. Wees.
Ross would get his second goal of the night and the Wings last goal in regulation time at the 17:08 mark of the first period, with help from Kyle Vogal to close out the opening period with a 3-0 score in Weyburn's favour.
Whatever Estevan Bruins' coach, Karry Biette told his players during the intermission it appeared to work as the Bruins squad came out looking for blood in the second period.
The Bruins did everything they could to score but Wings' netminder Nate Ferris held his ground until the nine minute mark of the second period when Bruin Ryan Anderson found the back of the Wings' net.
The relatively calm game between the two rival clubs produced very few penalties throughout the entire contest with each team receiving only three trips to the sin-bin.
But as Weyburn's fortunes would unravel, Estevan would score twice in the third period with Josh Jelinski scoring at the 9:04 mark and Mark Cross knotting the game at 3-3 at the 9:40 mark of the third period.
Overtime wouldn't settle anything Saturday night and the fans were given the chance to watch a shootout where it would come down to one last shooter. Weyburn's TJ Wees was the only shooter from both sides to find the back of the goaltenders nets to give Weyburn the shoot-out victory.
Humboldt 8- Weyburn 2
In a completely different setting in front of a hometown crowd the Wings were humbled with an 8-2 shellacking last Wednesday night at Crescent Point Place Arena.
It was the Broncos who would score three goals in the opening period with the first two 小蓝视频 on power plays. Broncos Jeremy Boyer and Josh Roach scored early in the opening period. Boyer would add his second of the night at the 13:51 mark of the first period.
Weyburn's Shawn Cowie would put the Wings onto the scoreboard with a power-play goal with under three minutes remaining in the opening 20 minutes of play. Dylan Coupal and George were awarded assists for their parts in the Wings' first goal.
With just over two minutes off the clock in the second period, Humboldt's Boyer picked-up his hat-trick goal, making it a 4-1 contest to this point in the game.
Weyburn's Ross would add their second goal of the evening with assists going to Bruce and Wees. This would be all the Wings could muster this evening as Humboldt netminder Andrew Bodnarchuk would turn away all other shots on his net for the remainder of the game.
The Broncos would score four more unanswered goals with one more coming in the second period from Nick Keller to make it a 5-2 contest at the end of the second period.
With only 19 seconds off the clock in the final period of the contest Spencer Braaten would pick up the Bronco's sixth with a power play goal stunning the hometown team and crowd. Humboldt would show no mercy and Justin Buzzeo would score twice more before the game had concluded.
The Wings will now host the Kindersley Klippers Friday. October 29 and the Nipawin Hawks on Halloween night, Sunday October 31 at 3:00 p.m.
The Yorkton Terriers will also be in town Tuesday, November 2 and Humboldt will return to town on Friday, November 5. Most Wings' games start at 7:30 p.m. unless noted as above.
