Both the Red Wings and the Terriers have eight games left to play in February. Weyburn just has to gain four more points over Yorkton to ensure they take home another Sherwood division conference banner, and earn a bye in the first week of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League playoffs.

Currently the Red Wings are placed 16th in the Top 20 teams of the Canadian Junior Hockey League. Forward Jesse Ross is close to reaching the 50-goal point, and as of Jan. 30 he had acquired 39 goals and 30 assists.

While hosting the Battlefords and Nipawin at Crescent Point Place during the weekend, the Red Wings won three out of four possible points.

In the game against the North Stars on Friday, who are second place in the Bauer division, the Red Wings won 3-2. Coltyn Sanderson scored the first goal for Weyburn at 18:22 in the first period, assisted by Jesse Ross and Sam Williams.

The game-winning goal was scored by Jack Kennelly at 17:13, assisted by Braden Kmita and Kyle Olenuik.

Earning the win in net was Mitch Kilgore, who stopped 31 out of 33 attempts.

The following night, the Red Wings hosted the Nipawin Hawks and lost 5-4 in overtime. The first period started tied, with Pereira scoring at 5:26, assisted by Williams and Hoffman.

Weyburn gained a slight lead in the second period, by scoring two goals while the Hawks only scored once. Olenuik scored at 11:00, assisted by Lane Harbor and Kennelly; and Sanderson scored at 15:00, assisted by Bruce and Ross.

He played in the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League with the Tisdale Trojans and the Regina Pat Canadians where he was the fourth leading defenseman in 2010-11 with 12 goals and 20 assists. He has played in 30 games this year with the Red Wings and has three goals and 20 assists.

The Red Wings will play in two road games this weekend, first appearing in Humboldt on Friday, Feb. 3, and then in Nipawin on Saturday, Feb. 4. Their next home game is against Melville on Tuesday, Feb. 7.

Residents are reminded that the Red Wings Sports and Leisure Lotto was extended to Friday, Feb. 17. Tickets are available at the Red Wings office, or at any home game.
