Weyburn had the opportunity to showcase its soccer programs from July 16 to 18 during the Saskatchewan Soccer Association's Division 3 Youth Provincial Championship.Three Weyburn teams competed at provincials. The Under-14 Junior Boys Black Devils won the gold medal, beating the Meadow Lake Highlanders in the final. The two teams were tied 0-0 through regulation and overtime. Weyburn defeated Meadow Lake 4-2 in penalty kicks to win gold at home. They went 3-1 in the round-robin, beating Meadow Lake 1-0, the SUSC Chargers 4-0 and the Hollandia Athletics 1-0. Their round-robin loss was 3-0 to the Humboldt Hurricanes.The Under-16 Boys Black Devils won silver, after a 3-1 loss to Humboldt in the gold medal game. Weyburn defeated the Swift Current Hurricanes 5-1 and the Melfort Strikers 3-1 in the round-robin to advance to the championship game. (The result from Weyburn's round-robin game against Humboldt was not available).The Under-14 Junior Girls Red Devils lost 3-1 in the semi-final to Saskatoon Aurora Polaris. Weyburn went 2-1 in the round-robin, with a 6-0 victory over the VSA Rovers, a 2-1 win over the Melfort Wildcats, and a 2-1 loss to the Battlefords Stingers.Battlefords beat Saskatoon Aurora 2-0 in the final.Two other provincial tournaments were contested in Weyburn. Yorkton United beat Saskatoon Hollandia 4-3 in penalty kicks to win the Under-16 Girls event. The game was scoreless after regulation and overtime. And Humboldt beat Saskatoon Lakewood 4-3 in penalty kicks to win the Under-18 Girls tournament. That game was tied 1-1 after regulation and overtime.
