WEYBURN - The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Gold Wings split a pair of home games against the Prince Albert Northern Bears on the weekend.
The Bears won 4-1 over the Gold Wings during the first game, held at Crescent Point Place on Saturday night. Prince Albert scored one goal in the first period and three goals in the second period. Paisley Arntsen scored the lone goal for the Gold Wings at the 10:36 mark of the second period, off assists by Rilynn Dobson and Julianne Girardin.
There were no goals scored in the third period.
Hailey Sibbald was in net for the Gold Wings, stopping 28 out of 32 shots.
The Gold Wings then claimed a 4-3 overtime victory over Prince Albert, in the second game held at Crescent Point Place on Sunday afternoon.
Prince Albert started strong with two goals in the first period. The Gold Wings had a strong third period.
Hailey Verhelst scored at the 18:40 mark, assisted by Sydney Dauvin and Ashton Bender. Jacey Ziebart scored at the 16:53 mark, assisted by Girardin and Dobson. Arntsen scored the third goal at the 2:55 mark, with assists from Girardin and Dobson.
The Northern Bears scored at the 1:30 mark in the third period, to tie up the game. In the overtime period, Sydney Dauvin scored the game-winning goal for the Gold Wings, assisted by Arntsen. Lexi Peace was in net for the Gold Wings, stopping 53 out of 56 shots.
The Weyburn Gold Wings will host Saskatoon at Crescent Point Place on Saturday, January 29 at 2:45 p.m. and then travel to Swift Current to play a 1:30 p.m. game on Sunday, January 30.
