Sat., Jan. 8/11 -Wawota - 4 at Lampman - 3
The Flyers took a 2 - 0 first period lead in Lampman on goals by Kevin Lincoln who scored on the rebound of a James Gallagher point shot and by Joel Carpenter whose nifty backhand shot beat the Imperials' tenderafter taking a nice centering pass from Kent Sauter.
Lampman scored on the power-play midway through the second, but the Flyers answered with their own power-play marker with four minutes left when Kent Sauter scored off a scramble with Lincoln and Tommy Thomas assisting. The Flyers led 3 - 1 after two.
The third saw the Flyers score on the power-play again five minutes into the third when Lincoln scored his second, pounding the rebound of Rob West's point shothome to give the Flyers a commanding 4 - 1 lead. The Penalty Bug then reared its ugly head as tje Flyers took 6 minors in the last part of the period, including two long 5 on 3 Imperial advantages. They scored twice,threatening to force over-time, but Ryan Potter stood tall in the Flyers' cage to thwart any Imperial efforts. A big road win!
Sun., Jan. 9/11 - Midale - 3 at Wawota - 1 - Big Six Hockey League
The visiting Mustangs, three-time defending League Champions, opened fast, scoring three times in the first 14 minutes as they caught the Flyers flat-footed in this Sunday matinee leading a 3 - 0 after the first period.
The Flyers then settled in,as new-Flyer Tommy Thomas tucked the rebound of a Mike Bratton point shot behind Landon Irwinin the Mustangs' net to make it 3 - 1 Midale midway through the second period. From thatpoint on, Irwin and his counter-part in the Flyers' cage, Ryan Potter stole the show, putting on a clinic as they baffled their opposing snipers time and again! Aperformance that was a joy to watch!
There was no scoring in the third as both goalies continued their fine play.Final score- Midale - 3, Flyers - 1 - a good effort from our boys against an impressive foe!
