Weyburn Minor Football (WMF) has set the date for their mini-camp and 2011 registration process.

"For the last two years, WMF has held a one-day mini-camp designed to give kids a chance to come out and see what football is like. It gives the young person a chance to try the sport without committing to registration," said WMF President Brent Allin. "For a couple of hours, coaches and players will run drills, throw the pig skin around, and have some fun. It's a great way to start thinking about football after a long winter."

This year's minicamp will be held on Saturday, May 14 on the east side of Jubilee Park. It will start at 10 a.m. and run until 1 p.m. No special equipment is required other than sweats, runners and a full water bottle.

During the workout players will be put through a number of stations focusing on football skills. Players can expect some light contact at the camp. May 14 will also kick-off WMF's 2011 registration week. The week will consist of two opportunities for players to register in person. The first will be right after the camp from 1 to 2 p.m. at the football shack on the east parking lot of Jubilee Park. The second and final registration night will take place on Wednesday, May 18 from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Turner Curling Museum (next to the swimming pool).

Registration forms can also printed online and mailed but WMF would prefer families register in person. The registration deadline is May 25.

"Registration has been moved ahead this year to ensure that we have the right equipment and number of teams," said Allin.

The registration form can be downloaded and filled out prior to the event by going to www.weyburnminorfootball.org and then clicking the green handout button on the left side of the page.

WMF is a not-for-profit community based volunteer organization dedicated to giving youth in Weyburn and area an opportunity to play football. Boys and girls from ages nine to 15 play in three different divisions: Atom - age nine to 11, Pee Wee - 13 and under, and Bantam - 15 and under. Weyburn teams play in the Regina Minor Football League as affiliates. WMF works closely with the City of Weyburn, The Weyburn Comprehensive School, corporate sponsors and many other community groups.
