ESTEVAN - Two members of the Estevan Bruins earned SJHL Player of the Week honours for Jan. 9-15, after the team won all three of its games.
Forward Keagon Little has been named the SJHL’s MVP of the Week, while Jackson Miller has been chosen as the SJHL’s Goalie of the Week.
Little dominated the competition last week, posting five goals and three assists in three games. In a 5-3 win over the Yorkton Terriers, Little had a goal and three assists, and he followed that up with a pair of goals in each game this past weekend, a 5-3 win over the Notre Dame Hounds and a 5-0 win over the Battlefords North Stars.
Little has scored twice at even-strength, twice on the power play, and once short-handed.
Since rejoining the team after starting the year with Briercrest College, Little has been the team’s top scorer and provides the Bruins’ with impressive two-way play at centre.
“Little was a key contributor to last season’s SJHL championship team as a shutdown centerman. It appears the third-year forward is taking the next step to СÀ¶ÊÓƵ the go-to-guy for the Bruins for the rest of 2022-23,” the Bruins said in a news release.
Meanwhile, Miller was named the goaltender of the week. Miller, who was born and raised in Estevan, has received a chance to play consistently since Christmas, as starter Cam Hrdlicka has been sidelined with an injury.
Miller earned the win in all three games last week, but saved his best performance for Saturday night. Facing the Stars, who are the top-ranked team in the country, Miller backstopped the Bruins to a 5-0 victory to get his first SJHL shutout. Miller made 30 saves and was named the game’s first star as the Bruins handed Battlefords their first regulation loss this season.
For the week, Miller had a 2.00 goals-against average and a .928 save percentage.
