It was going to take more than a little wind and rain for the Estevan Trap Club to have to cancel a Saskatchewan Amateur Trapshooting Association registered event over the weekend.
Weather did have an effect on the number of shooters in the weekend's competition though. Registration numbers were down from about 30 trapshooters in 2009 to just over 10 on Saturday and Sunday.
The rain didn't stop shooters from putting up some good scores. On Saturday, Alida's Joe Harvey hit 193 out of 200 targets in A Class singles, while Yorkton's Lloyd Sutherland hit one less in the AA class.
Sutherland had another strong day on Sunday, hitting 97 out of 100 targets in AA class 100 singles and 94 out of 100 in A class doubles.
Estevan had two competitors in the tournament. Clarence Durr hit 93 out of 100 targets in A class singles and Gerald Smith hit 92 out of 100 in the mid-range handicap.
The SATA holds registered events every weekend across the province. The Boundary Dam trap range holds one registered shoot annually.
The Estevan Trap Club meets every Wednesday night to practice and encourages anyone who is interested to come out and see what the range has to offer.
